The Daura Local Government Area in Katsina State has immunised 80,468 children against polio during the just-concluded Polio routine immunisation exercise.
Malam Ahmed Murtala, the Council’s Director of Primary Health Care, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Daura on Tuesday.
He said that the council received 87,020 doses of polio vaccines and administered 86,900 across the 11 wards in the area, saying that it achieved about 99 per cent coverage during the exercise.
According to Murtala, 29 special teams, 24 fixed posts and four health camps were engaged during the exercise.
He said that only 34 households having 59 children were not covered in the exercise.
Murtala, however, gave an assurance that the remaining households would be covered during the In Between Round activity (IBR) exercise, which would soon commence.
“We will ensure that no child is left out,’’ he said.
The director commended the people in the area, especially parents for their commitment toward routine immunisation.
NAN reports that Daura Local Government Council immunised 80,367 children in the last polio immunisation conducted in October 2018.
Last week, the council launched a house-to-house enlightenment campaign on preventive and curative measures against measles and cerebral meningitis following the recent change in weather and humidity. (NAN)
