The 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Lagos on Thursday offered free medical treatment to over 300 Ikorodu residents to boost it civil-military relations and rid criminality off the streets.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Division, Maj.-Gen. Sanni Yusuf who inaugurated the exercise at Ishawo Community Town Hall in Ikorodu, was bridge the gap between civil and military.
Free writing materials like books, pencils and erasers were also donated to over 200 pupils of Anglican Primary school in Ishawo, Ikorodu.
The GOC said the event was part of the activities lined up for the ongoing exercise Egwu-Eke III.
“The free medical outreach will feature free consultation, diagnosis, and dispensing of medications.
“Also to be distributed are free books and writing materials to pupils and students. This is to endear the hearts and mind of various host communities,” he said.
The Assistant Head Teacher of the School, Mrs Tijani Odunola, expressed gratitude to the army for the kind gesture.
One of the residents, Mr Salami Abiodun, also appreciated the army for the gesture, adding that he would continue to pray for the soldiers in battlefield.
Mrs Bisi Idowu, a 89-year-old woman was so joyful thanked the army for bringing such a medical outreach to the community.
One of the pupils, Babatunde Salami said he was happy for the writing materials and promised to use them judiciously.
The free medical outreach included health education, malaria testing, dental consultation, eye screening, books and malaria drugs.
Egwu Eke – meaning ‘Python Dance’ is being conducted to dance nationwide to tackle already “observed upsurge’’ in security challenges ahead of the general elections. (NAN)
