The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Sule Zakari Kazure has described the Niger state NYSC Orientation camp as the worst in the country.
He said that the state government has not dealt in best terms with the camp as what is on camp betrays the glowing terms they have used in describing the camp.
Kazure made his observation while inspecting the hostel facilities in the Niger state NYSC camp on Tuesday.
Speaking to newsmen on his impression of the camp, the DG said, “To be frank with you, this is the worst orientation camp in the Nation. I want this message to reach the Governor, this is the worst orientation cap in the federation.
“The facilities are grossly inadequate, the hostels, the toilets, everything is inadequate. Niger state orientation camp is the worst in the federation. I have met with the Governor one on one and I am dismayed that he has not fulfilled his promise about the camp. “
Although he did not state that the camp would be closed from holding orientation exercises, his body language and words said it all.
“We are not closing the camp yet, we will give the government a benefit of doubt, we will give him time to see what will happen but he should know that Niger camp is the worst camp in the federation. “
The Niger state NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Theresa Ibunkun Arokoyo said that the orientation camp is disadvantaged because of its temporary nature explaining that the camp lacks lecture hall, male hostels, has inadequate and dilapidated staff quarters, inadequate water, toilet facilities, plastic chairs, mattresses, beds and deteriorating state of infrastructures within the camp.
She said that the temporary status of the orientation camp has made it difficult to control movement in and out of the camp adding that security of properties has also not been easy to maintain.
Arokoyo however said that the state Governor had directed the commencement of the construction of the permanent site expressing optimism that the promise will be actualized in the nearest future.
She said that there are 1,768 registered Corp members adding that they had been if exemplary behavior and have fully settled to the regimented lifestyle of the camp.
