Pastor Yohanma Buru of Christ Intercesory Fellowship Sabon Tasha Kaduna has urged non-governmental organisations to spearhead the search for enduring peace in Nigeria.
Buru made the call in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) on Thursday in Kaduna ahead of the World Peace Day marked on Sept. 21, globally.
Buru thanked the United Nations for creating the day, which he said should be driven by groups across communities and regions in promoting peaceful coexistence and intervening in areas of conflict.
“Peace is a necessity to humanity, and in any aspect where peace is missing, all other facets of development are lost.
“As such NGOs, faith based groups and civil society organisations should be engaged in peace promotion, building harmonious relations and mutual respect among the diverse communities in the country.
“This is necessary so that peace will overtake current crisis, wars and conflicts the world is experiencing today, ” he said.
Buru also called for support to the almost 200 million refugees worldwide including Nigeria, to enable them put their lives back.
The pastor particularly urged government at all levels to ensure justice and fairness and create modalities for early warning signals to track and stave off potestial crisis situations.
He also wants active support for traditional leaders in peace building activities, “because they are more closer to the people in the society.”
“All hands must be on deck to ensure that peace is restored in all parts of our country, so that Nigeria will be a reference point in peaceful coexistence.”(NAN)
