Unity of Nigeria Paramount, Says Kalu

kalu  700Former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has called on Nigerians,home and abroad to ensure togetherness through peaceful co existence irrespective of religious, political and ethnic differences.

The former governor made the remarks at the weekend at his Maryland, United States residence, during a thank you visit by some African students, who are beneficiaries of Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation University Scheme.

He acknowledged the efforts of the Nigerian government with the support of international stakeholders in the fight against insurgency.

Kalu who explained that the future of Nigeria is bright if the country remains united, said::”All hands must be on deck  to complement federal government’s efforts in bringing an end to the menace of terrorism. The security challenges facing Nigeria has effects on Africa as a whole, the more reason other African leaders have to support President Goodluck Jonathan’s efforts in bringing an end to the crisis. The world cannot be a safe place to live if regional peace cannot be guaranteed”.

On the issue of the devaluation of naira against dollar, Kalu urged the economic management team of the federal government of Nigeria to roll out strategies that will serve as palliatives to cushion the effects of the naira fall on international trade.

Ifeanyi Ugo, a beneficiary of the scheme,  who is studying  Clinical Pyschology at the Long Island University, expressed appreciation to the foundation for giving African students the opportunity to study in an international environment.

He said:”the name-Dr.Orji Kalu will forever be evergreen in the minds of the beneficiaries of this laudable project. The scheme has given us the opportunity to actualize our long-awaited dreams. The gesture is not only limited to Nigerians but also people from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia and Ghana. We are indeed grateful to the foundation and we promise to make the best use of this rare privilege.”

Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation is a non-profit organisation established to support people in the focus areas of health, education and youth empowerment. The foundation a few weeks ago rounded off its 2014 last quarter free medical scheme across the nation.
