The North East Tax Appeal Tribunal (TAT) on Tuesday assured members of the public and tax payers in the North East of equity and fairness in all matters brought before it.
Chairman of the tribunal, Prof. Bagoni Bukar, gave the assurance during an inaugural speech in Bauchi.
He said the tribunal which was reconstituted in November 2018, would ensure all pending cases and new ones were heard.
Bukar said the tribunal will hear case from Adamawa, Bauchi State, Borno, Gombe State, Taraba and Yobe.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that TAT was formally inaugurated on Nov. 5, in Abuja, by the Minister of Finance, Mrs Zainab Ahmed.
The tribunal has a mandate to resolve disputes arising from the operations of the tax laws and regulations as specified in the first schedule to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) establishment Act, 2007.
The Acts are: Companies Income Tax Act, Petroleum Profit Tax Act, Personal Income Tax Act, Capital Gains Tax Act, Stamp Duties Act, Value Added Tax Act and Taxes and Levies Act.
The tribunal is established to resolve issues for other laws, regulations, proclamations, government notices or rules related to those Acts, which are expressly spelt out in the Fifth Schedule to the FIRS (Establishment) Act. (NAN)
