In recognition of their contributions to the educational development of Sokoto state and Nigeria in general, the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto on Saturday conferred an award of “Fellowship of Shehu Shagari College of Education” on Sokoto state governor Aliyu Wamakko, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar and Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal.
Others are former President Shehu Shagari, Executive Secretary of National Commission for Colleges of Education, Prof. Muhammad Junaid, and an educationist, Alhaji Ahmadu Dange.
The Fellowship awards were presented during the College’s 21st convocation ceremony of 2000/2001 to 2012/2013 combined academic sessions that produced a total of 5,674 graduands.
Governor Aliyu Wamakko, who is the Visitor to the College observed that “education is the bedrock of the development of any society and we are not going to pay lip-service to the sector. My administration has been allocating lion-share of budgetary allocation 2007 to date,” Wamakko stated.
In the 2000/2001 academic years, the college re-introduced undergraduate programmes in affiliation with Usmanu Danfodiyo and Ahmadu Bello Universities with a total of 17 degrees in education, Gwajam Ardo, Special Adviser to Governor Wamakko on Higher Education said.
