Soldiers not assigned to perform political role, Nigerian Army insists

#TrackNigeria – The Nigerian Army has reiterated its position that none of its personnel has been assigned to perform any political role in the unfolding election season.

Acting Army Spokesman,Colonel Sagir Musa,  who made  this further clarification  through a statement  Monday added that “ any insinuation or assertion against this declaration is mischievous and politically motivated”

The Army Statement titled: “Re: Allegation Of Political Involvement Of A Military Officer In Rivers State” said Monday, “The Nigerian Army has made it sufficiently and consistently clear that none of its personnel will be involved in political campaigns,  escort of VIPs for political missions and above all, aiding or supporting any political party as has been circulated in noticeable media platforms.

“Although, a detailed release has been released, the need to further make the position of the NA clearer is therefore imperative.

Colonel Musa stated further, “Our Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct have not assigned any political role to the  NA in this regard. NA’s involvement starts and ends with the provision of peaceful and secured environment for the conduct of 2019 General Elections.

“Therefore, any insinuation or assertion against this declaration is mischievous and politically motivated which the NA under the command of Lt Gen TY Buratai has strongly and severally warned against.

He said “Members of the public are please requested to judge the Nigerian Army on this declaration.”
