The Senate Committee on Education led by Senator Uche Chukwumerije says it is astonished by landmark achievement of the Delta state Government in Basic and Secondary Education Sector.

Speaking during a courtesy call on Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan at the Government House Annex, Warri, Senator Chukwumerije said a tour of some model Secondary and Primary School structures showed that a major transformation had been achieved by the Uduaghan administration.

The Federal Legislator said reports by the Universal Basic Education Commission, (UBEC) and the State Primary Education Board (SUBEB) hierarchy in the state, indicated that cooperation between the State and the Federal Governments was producing good fruits.

The lawmaker urged sustenance of the synergy as basic education was the foundation of learning.

A delighted Governor Uduaghan said apart from free education at the Primary, Basic and Secondary levels, scholarship awards to first class University graduates and others were being executed to prepare the state for the future.

The Governor, who called for a second look at the payment of Primary School Teachers’ salaries, disclosed that the State subsidizes it monthly, to the tune of about 600 million naira as the Local Governments were incapable of meeting the obligation.

Besides, the Governor announced that the access road to the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, would be constructed by the State Government.

Former Plataeu State Governor, Chief Joshua Dariye, and Senator Pius Ewherido, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, amongst others were in the Committee, which is on a routine oversight visit to the State.
