A Masaka Upper Area Court in Nasarawa State, on Thursday sentenced a 30-year-old salesman, Femi Samson, to 18 months imprisonment for misappropriating his employer’s N63,125.
Samson, a resident of Riverside Film, Bala Masaka, Nasarawa State, had pleaded guilty to a count charge of misappropriation and begged for leniency.
”My lord, I am sorry for what I did, please give me two months to pay back and I promise to do that,” he said.
The judge, Yakubu Ishaku, sentenced Samson to 18 months imprisonment as he admitted committing the offence.
Ishaku, however, gave him an option of N10,000 fine, and to pay N63,125 to the complainant.
The court also ordered the convict to also pay N12,000 to the complaint being expenses incurred for the prosecution.
The judge said that the total amount of N75,125, should be paid within two months as agreed by the convict.
He warned that for any default, the convict would get additional 10 months imprisonment.
Prosecutor Frank Swem, had told the court that one Janet Emeafu of Up Market, Masaka, Nasarawa State, reported the matter at the Divisional Police Station, Masaka, on Nov.5
Swem said that on Nov. 3, the Manager of Hot Lottery Shop, located at Maju Market, Masaka, entrusted the said amount to the convict.
He told the court that the convict made away with the money to unknown destination.
Swem added that during police investigation, it was discovered that the convict converted the money to his personal use.
The prosecutor said that Samson absconded to an unknown destination until he was arrested on Nov. 8.
Swem said the offence contravened Section 309 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
