A group of young Nigerians on Thursday stormed stormed Abuja while Council of State Meeting was going on in Aso villa .
The protesters were kicking against alleged plan to postpone the general elections expected to begin in nine days’ time. Those who stage the protest were mostly youths and social media activists led by Barrister Solomon Dalung .
They marched from the popular Unity fountain towards Aso Villa where state council meeting is holding.
Most of the protesters carried different placards displaying various inscriptions like ‘say no to election postponement’.
Although they were barricaded by the police as they approached the villa but the messages on the placards were seen by those around.
The protesters were said to have organized themselves from social media to come out en-masse to kick against plan to postpone the upcoming general elections.
According to some of the protesters, Nigerians are ready for the elections and there should be no plot to force the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the upcoming elections. They further warned that if the election is postponed, a nationwide protest will be called.
One of the protesters said the government should encourage and support INEC to ensure credible polls rather than thinking of postponing the elections.
Meanwhile, reports said General Muhammadu Buhari is among the Council of State members meeting at the Villa. The meeting has generated alot of interest as the APC has alleged that the presidency was plotting to manipulate the council to support postponement.APC urged the members not to endorse the move.
