Police arrest 4 suspected armed robbers, 2 cultists in Calabar

The Cross River police command has arrested four suspected armed robbers terrorising the street of Atakpa in Calabar South Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Irene Ugbo, who spoke on a telephone interview on Wednesday in Calabar, said that the suspects were arrested on Oct. 4.

Ugbo explained that the suspects have being terrorising the residents for a long time, adding that the police got a tip-off during their operation and arrested them.

“We recorded some achievement last week Thursday with the arrest of four suspected armed robbers who have been terrorising residents in Atakpa area of Calabar.

“A concerned residents in the area alerted the police while the gang was carrying out their operation and the police immediately swung into action and arrested them.

“We recovered two locally made pistols from the suspects.

“The suspects are now in our custody and we will charge them to court as soon as investigation is completed,’’ she said.

Similarly, Irene said the Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad Department of the police also arrested two cultists in Eta-Agbor area of Calabar on Oct. 7.

She said that the cultists were arrested with dangerous weapons during a stop and search by the police.

She appealed to residents of the state to provide timely information to the police that would lead to arrest of suspected criminals in their neighborhood, especially during this ember months. (NAN)
