The Chief Whip of the Senate, Sen. Orji Kalu has felicitated with former President of the Senate, Chief Pius Anyim on his 60th birthday anniversary.

Kalu, in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, extolled Anyim’s virtues and acknowledged his contributions to nation building, having served in various capacities in the public sector.

Kalu described the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) as a complete gentleman, consummate politician and philanthropist.

He added that Anyim carved a niche for himself in public service.

“On behalf of the people of Abia North Senatorial District, I congratulate former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Anyim Pius Anyim as he clocks 60.

“The celebrant is a prominent Nigerian, who has served in various leadership positions in the public sector and has contributed immensely to the growth and progress of the country.

“He is a man of many parts and as such he is a consummate politician, patriotic statesman, community leader and kind-hearted philanthropist.

“His achievements are remarkable and worthy of commendation.

“As the celebrant marks his 60th birthday, it is my prayer that God will grant him grace to witness many more years in sound health,’’ Kalu said.

Also, the Chairman, Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Chief Elias Mbam, while felicitating Anyim described his success story as worthy of celebration.

Mbam said that Anyim rose through strife, sheer hard work and resilience to become the President of the Senate.

“At a time when Ebonyi people were regarded as backwards, you rose through strife, sheer hard work and resilience to become, not only the President of the Senate, but one who is still regarded as one of the best this country has produced.
“For decades you have dedicated your life to the service of mankind, mentoring many great people of enviable standing and repute, and working hard to ensure that Nigeria’s democracy surmounts innumerable challenges on its path.

“These you achieved both as a senator and Secretary to the Government of the Federation and for all these, I am indeed deeply proud to have you as a brother,’’ he said.

Mbam prayed God to continue to keep Anyim alive in good spirit, for many more years.

Anyim was elected as a senator in May 1999 and was elected President of the Senate in August 2000 and in May 2011, he was appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation. (NAN)
