The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has condemned Saturday’s attack on the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero in which some members of his entourage were reportedly killed, urging security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.

Chairman of the forum and Governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu on Sunday expressed the forum’s deepest sympathy to the families of those killed in the attack as well as the Government and people of Kano State, saying no grievance can justify such an attack on a peace loving statesman like the Kano monarch.

In a statement signed by Governor Aliyu’s Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo, the forum said it is sad that the attack is coming at a time a lot of progress seemed to have been made in the war against terror.

“The fact that the Emir of Kano, like other traditional rulers, are in the fore front of finding a lasting solution to the recurring cycle of security challenges confronting the nation makes the attack more painful,” the statement added.

The forum emphasized that the Emir has played a lead role in ensuring tolerance and peace in his kingdom since he mounted the throne five decades ago.

It noted that since Emir Ado Bayero mounted the throne, violence, whether sectarian or otherwise, was a rare occurrence in Kano, where people of diverse ethnic, religious and socio-cultural background co-habit in peace.

The forum however commended security agencies for the success recorded so far, but urged them not to relent, saying the success recorded should motivate them to do more

The forum also repeated its earlier appeal to aggrieved persons to shun violence and opt for dialogue towards the resolution of the challenges currently confronting the nation.
