The National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 85 suspected drugs dealers and seized a total of 668.6 kg of illicit drugs between January 2018 and May 2018.
The Zamfara NDLEA Commander, Mr Gabriel Eigege, disclosed this at a press conference in Gusau on Friday.
Eigege noted that within the period under review, 85 suspected drug dealers comprising 81 males and four females were arrested by the command.
Out of the number, he said 11 were convicted, six have pending cases before the Federal High Court in Gusau while 52 drugs users were counselled.
“On Jan. 20, 2018, our operatives during the cordon and search operation at Magami town in Gusau LGA arrested 10 persons in possession of firearms, assorted charms and other dangerous weapons.
“The suspects were transferred to relevant authorities for further action.
“On May 23, our officials from Tsafe Area Command Office intercepted and seized 503.4 kg of cough syrup with codeine and rohypnol and arrested two suspects.
“We have finished investigation, all the suspects would be charged to courts,’’ he said.
He further said that on May 30, a team of NDLEA officers from Gummi Area Command on routine patrol on the Gada Zaima road intercepted three persons with some suspected explosive devices.
“We have concluded the preliminary investigation, the suspects along with their exhibits will be transferred to relevant authorities for further action,’’ he added.
He appealed to residents of the state to always assist the command with useful information on illicit drug trade and abuse. (NAN)
