The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has commended the Federal Government for lifting the 7-month ban on Twitter. But the society called for strategic plan from stakeholders for national development. The Chairman, NCS Abuja Chapter, Mr Olusegun Alabi, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja. He said the society was ready to partner with the federal government to ensure that Nigeria was not short-changed in the ever-growing digital world, adding that prevention is better than cure.

“Some of the conditions met to lift the Twitter ban include legal registration of its operations in Nigeria, Taxation, and managing prohibited publications in line with Nigerian laws. Good and better deal.“

This means in part, more money for the country through agreements with various social media platforms.“This will also create opportunities for legal means to perform social media jobs.

Thereby, getting the teeming youths doing legal businesses,” he said.Alabi said it had not been easy over seven months for IT practitioners, especially those that run businesses on the social media platform, regretting that business opportunities, incomes, collaborations, employment and others were lost during the period. He however said the country need to regulate the cyberspace as new opportunities emerge and needs to be done with care.
