The smugglers were alleged to have ambushed and murdered Sanni while his colleague, an Inspector, escaped with severe injury as they attempted to drive the seized trucks to Customs office.

“NANS received the shocking news of the killing of Customs Assistant 1, Hamisu Sanni, at Asero area in Abeokuta, Ogun state, when its officials visited the customs area Controller.

The association said the incident was worrisome, especially when the route had witnessed drastic reduction of activities of smugglers in recent time.

“NANS had noticed the drastic reduction in the smuggling rate in ogun state, from what it used to be, as Ogun is known to be a state with many border routes/access.

“On arrival of NANS to the customs’ headquarters in Abeokuta, the students’ leaders were informed about the attack of the smugglers, that claimed the life of Hamisu Sanni and left an inspector severely injured as well.

“NANS commiserates with the family of deceased while praying the Almighty Allah to grant him aljanah firdaos.”

Amoo appealed to the state Commissioner of Police to ensure the perpetrators were arrested and prosecuted. (NAN)
