The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 38-year-old man, Peter Nwabueze, at an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged attempt to steal a twin.
The accused, whose house address is not known, is being tried for stealing.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, had earlier told the court that the offence was committed on Nov. 13, at about 9.30 a.m at No. 4, Afolabi Close, Savage Gemade Estate, Lagos State.
He alleged that the accused had broken into Mrs Sherifat Ayorinde’s apartment and made an attempt to snatch one of her twins.
He said that Ayorinde’s scream attracted the attention of other neighbours, who quickly forced their way into her apartment and helped apprehend the accused.
He said the offence contravened Section 277 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Folarin-Williams, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She held that the sureties must show proof of evidence of tax payment to the state government to the court’s registrar as part of the bail conditions.
Folarin-Williams adjourned the case till Jan. 30, 2018, for hearing. (NAN)
