Dr Doyin Okupe has emerged as senior special assistant on public affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan. His appointment was announced by Anyim Pius Anyim, Secretary to the Government of the Federation in a letter reportedly dated July 24.
Okupe served as the Presidential spokesman during the Olusegun Obasanjo regime before he was unceremoniously sacked. He has however remained in the media limelight ever since.
His latest appointment is interpreted by some observers as a reflection of the presidency’s unease with Reuben Abati’s not too combative style. Abati is the presidential spokesman .Okupe may have been signed on to serve as an attack dog of the regime.
Femi Fani-Kayode and Uba Sani were previous occupants of the Okupe’s new post in the Obasanjo era.
