Three sisters aged between 16 and 19 were on Saturday, rescued by men of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Sokoto State have rescued from being trafficked out of the country.
The sisters, identified as Blessing, Christabel and Sandra who were rescued at NIS checkpoint at Lambar Tureta in Tureta local government area of the state, were reported to come from Benin, Edo State and confessed that they were to meet a suspected female human trafficker, Agnes in Sokoto who was to traffic them to Libya.
Sokoto State Controller of NIS, Alhaji Yushau Aliyu confirmed to Newsdiaryonline that the victims had no travel documents, and that they initially hid the fact that they were coming to meet someone in Sokoto until investigation proved so.
“They admitted that they were in search of greener postures,” adding, “Agnes is at large while the girls will be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons.”
He called on members of the public to notify security agents whenever such cases of trafficking were noticed.
