Senate Minority Whip and frontline governorship aspirant in Lagos state Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, today officially declared his ambition to vie for the State’s number one job in 2015 general elections.
Speaking at the official declaration ceremony attended by a mammoth crowd of his supporters at Ikorodu Town Hall in Ikorodu local government, Lagos State the aspirant popularly called GOS reeled out his plan for the people and was subsequently adopted by the traditional chiefs and leaders of the All Progressives Congress(APC) from the local government.
The declaration coincides with the inauguration of his campaign office in the town where members and supporters of APC gathered in their thousands to express their unflinching support for the senator in his “unwavering commitment and drive to take Lagos to the next level.”
Solomon stated that he offered to serve the people of Lagos due the status of the state as the economic capital of nation ,saying it needs “constant improvement and regeneration of infrastructural facilities and the people deserve the best possible.”
He analysed how his party has “changed the face of Lagos and improved the quality of lives of the people” since the inception of the new democratic dispensation in 1999.
The currently most favoured governorship aspirant commended the former governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the incumbent Governor Raji Fashola for taking the state to greater heights”that left no one in doubt that Lagos is a reference point in good governance.”
Reeling out what he has in the offing for Lagosians, Solomon, who sponsored bills on amendment of the National Directorate of Employment Act, Electronic Commerce ,Whistleblowers Protection, Institute of Capital Market Registrars and Elderly Persons Centre, as well as sponsored or co-sponsored many motions, declared that “I will lead a government that will ensure improved security of lives and\ property.”
“I will assemble a formidable team that will not only adequately maintain existing infrastructure, but provide new ones.; Lagosians will enjoy more road and sea infrastructure, hospitals, schools and renewal of the environment; I promise to reduce poverty, create new jobs and youth development programmes. I promise support for the organized private sector; I promise to accord the traditional institution, the elderly and vulnerable citizens of our state due recognition and support;
“I intend to run a transparent and corruption-free government that will give all stakeholders: civil servants,public servants and residents of Lagos their dues and make everyone happy”,he added.
Senator Solomon had represented Lagosians at different levels-local council chairman, House Representatives and currently in the Senate for a second term.
The traditional chiefs present at the event include Baale of Eleshin, Baale Ogolonto, Baale Ewenla, Baale Palopo, Baale Ladegboye and Baale Majidun among several others.
Among political leaders who graced the occasion include Alhaji Yinka Esho, Alhaja Ajao, Dr. Ahmed Afolabi, Hon Olanrewaju Saka Senayo, Alhaji Apanisile, chairman, Lagos Choice 2015 Ikorodu,Princess Afolashade Olabanji Oba among others.
Speaking on the primaries of his party,Solomon assured the people of the state that “it is heartwarming that our party has adopted the modified open primaries to select candidates for elective offices at all levels. This is a paradigm shift that will guarantee the choiceof candidates favoured by the majority of our party members.”
He appreciated the leadership of the party,saying “I commend our party leaders for this laudable initiative and look forward to transparent and rancour-free primaries.”
The governorship aspirant, therefore,called on all his supporters to “go back to your wards and mobilize for the party primaries and for our success.”
