Fatai Atanda, Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF) technical committee member on Thursday lauded Kaduna zone of the federation for taking Nigerian hockey to unprecedented glorious height.
Fatai said it was Kaduna zone’s dedication to hockey that earned Nigeria gold in U-17 hockey tournament in Accra.
He urged other zones to emulate the hard work and creativity of the Kaduna zone for better and stronger national hockey team.
“I give kudos to Kaduna zone, especially Coach Abdullahi Ndana for raising a youthful team that made us proud in Accra.
“Other zones should emulate Kaduna zone to make hockey what it is supposed to be like in Belgium,’’ Fatai said.
The official said that Nigerian hockey was on the road to greatness with better and youthful teams from Kaduna.
According to him, we are encouraging the youth to take over hockey in Nigeria.
“Just like Belgium, the oldest player in their national team is 21 years.’’
Kaduna zone raised the U-17 hockey national team that lifted gold in Accra on March 27.
The Nigerian side defeated Ghana 6-4 in a keenly contested West African Hockey tournament to emerge champions. (NAN)
