Kaduna State Government on Saturday, organized a Durbar in order to celebrate Kaduna City’s 100 year anniversary
The celebration which was held at Murtala Square was attended by the State Governors, all the traditional rulers from the north, top government officials and a lot of prominent Nigerians among others.
The present-day Kaduna, carved from the old Northern Region, has a rich political history dating back to 1917.It served as the British Administrative Headquarters when the Colonial authorities moved its capital from Zungeru, in the present Niger State to Kaduna.
It has also a rich history of commercial and business activities and remains one of Nigeria’s major business hubs in the region.
The significance of Kaduna City in the political, cultural, social and economic landscapes of the Nigerian nation cannot be overemphasized. Hence the need to celebrate the uniqueness of this ancient City at 100, government said.
According to government officials, the aims and objectives of the Centenary Celebrations are to showcase the rich history of Kaduna as the capital city of the Northern Nigeria, to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the North; to open up sources of revenue for all the State Government and to promote tourism and boost the economy of the Northern States.
Others are to enhance Social and Economic growth for the region and to promote Unity and Progress in diversity among others.
