Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu of Niger state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered humiliating defeat in the Senatorial election for Niger East as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Barrister David Umaru winning with wide margin.
In the same vein, two term Senator and wife of former Niger state Governor, Senator Zainab Kure suffered a massive defeat to her APC opponent, General Mohammed Garba in Niger South Senatorial District.
Results of the election were announced at the collation centers at the two senatorial zones.
Niger East: In the results were announced at the senatorial election collation centre at College of education Minna by the returning officer for Chanchanga local government, Dr. Kasim Salako, the APC scored 49519 votes while PDP got 17,209 votes.
The APC candidate got 18,887 votes in Gurara local government to defeat the PDP candidate who scored 6,520 while in Shiroro local government APC polled 27,191 votes as against 7519 votes for PDP.
In Tafa local government, the collating officer, Dr. Emmanuel Daniya said that the governor was defeated by the APC with 17,596 votes to 8,151 votes scored by PDP.
In Bosso local government of the state, it was a land slide victory for the APC candidate with 36,250 voters over PDP that got 7060 votes. Barrister David Umaru also extended his winning streak to Munye local government from where he polled 13666 votes over PDP with 6,635 votes of the governor
At the time of filing this report, three local governments of Suleja, Paikoro and Rafi local governments were yet to arrive at the collation centre
However the results from these six local governments out of nine that made up the Niger East senatorial district also known as zone B, APC supporters have started jubilation over the successful outing of the party and its candidate in the senatorial election with the defeat of the governor
In Niger South Senatorial district, APC polled 39,412 votes while PDP polled 8,249 votes in Bida local government while in Edati LGA, APC polled 9,747 votes and PDP polled 8,191.
APC won in a landslide victory in Gbako LGA polling 14,980 votes as against PDP 7,340 votes and also in Katcha LGA where APC won with 14,501 votes while PDP polled 4,866 votes and in Mokwa LGA, APC polled 25,731 votes while PDP polled 8,124 votes.Results are being awaited for Lapai, Agaie and Lavun LGAs
