The Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, Alumni Association has donated a borehole to the institution’s teaching and research farm.
President FUTA Alumni Worldwide, Comrade Olaitan Adesomoju said the a bid to improve the capacity of the university to deliver on one of its core mandates.
The donation of the borehole is in line with the determination of the old students to contribute meaningfully to the development of their Alma Mata.
He said the relationship between the Alumni and the University could be likened to that of a mother and a child, adding that it is the responsibility of all reasonable Alumni to contribute significantly to the growth of the Alma Mata.
Adesomoju described the management as very cooperative and always willing to listen to suggestions from the Alumni Association.
He said the water project will further boost the capacity of the farm in its assigned responsibility of training and research.
Speaking at the occasion the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Fuwape, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development, Prof. Philip Oguntunde congratulated the Alumni President and his members for not forgetting their source and for constantly giving back.
He commended the water project initiative saying it would improve service delivery by the Teaching and Research Farm.
Fawule enjoined old students of other institutions to emulate their FUTA counterparts.
Commissioning the project, the governor of Ondo state, Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, represented by the Chief of Staff, Mr. Gbenga Ale said all Alumnus should take the initiative of going back to their Alma Mata from time to time in order to experience the joy and excitement of homecoming.
He said the role of Alumni cannot be taken for granted as most Universities need the support of Alumni to sustain Academic development.
Akeredolu urged the association to continue to execute more laudable projects that will be of benefit to students in particular and the whole University at large.
