Four dead as gunmen invade, burn Opalo town in Adamawa

Four persons have been confirmed dead as gunmen suspected to be hired vigilante men in the wee hours of Thursday invaded and burnt down completely the boisterous town of Opalo in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Eye witness accounts said youths of Opalo had intercepted a hirux vehicle with suspected Fulani herdsmen and a man in security uniform suspected to be hired vigilantes.

The sources further said when the youths stopped   the vehicle to find out the true identity  of the people, the suspected  herdsmen ran into the bush but the man in uniform was apprehended.  During  interrogation to find out if he was a true security personnel, the man in uniform suddenly slumped and died.

Eyewitnesses said about 2 am gunmen invaded  and started burning down the town have been Properties razed include the family house of a prominent man Engineer Hapsa Cornelius.

Military sources however  said some vigilante men patrolling the area may have set fire to warm themselves before the fire caught some buildings

The police and other security personnel have been mobilized to Opalo town to restore normalcy.
