Properties of 63 students were lost to a fire incident at a hostel of Government Girls’ College in Sokoto.
Dr. Fatima Musa, Principal of the College told Newsdiaryonline on Thursday that the unfortunate incident, which occurred at 4.30pm on November 3rd 2014 while the students were attending their evening preps, did not claim any life.
“We suspect electrical fault but the authenticity or not of our suspicion will be confirmed by the committee already set up by the state government to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fire,” she said.
Musa explained that the affected students lost their uniforms, other wears, text and note books, food items among other items, adding that the affected students were given a week break to resume on November 9th.
The state government, which according to her had promised to provide new mattresses, beddings, blankets and other items to the victims, will also commence the renovationof the burnt hostel while the students will be accommodated in another hostel upon their return.
Musa commended the state Zakkat and Endowment for the donation of N105,000 and other items to the affected students.
The items, she disclosed, included 70 wrappers and plastic mats, five bags each of garri and rice, detergents and toilet soaps, among others.
