As part of measures to curtail the spread of the dreaded Ebola virus to Kano state, the state government of Kano state, says it may likely ban sale of bush meat.
The proscription is however, subject to the report of a committee set up by the government to visit bush meat sales points in markets and other places in the state. The three-man committee is headed by the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Nasiru Gawuna while his colleagues of the Ministries of Health and Commerce, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf and Dr. Umar Faruk Jibril are members.
The state governor, Rabi’u Kwankwaso made the disclosure Wednesday, during the weekly executive council at the council chambers, Government House, Kano while briefing newsmen on efforts that are being made by the government to contain the spread of the virus.
Governor Kwankwaso maintained that the government is ready to take decisive steps to prevent the speared of the virus, adding that medical doctors have already briefed the state executive council on the proactive measures to take in stopping the spread of the virus, ahead of the committee’s report.
He said apart from the proposed Ebola Isolation Centre set aside in Kano, the state government is discussing with officials of Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital on how to contain the situation in the event its spread to Kano.
The advised Nigerians to take preventive measures seriously and appealed to health officials, clerics and other agenda setters to continue enlightening the people on personal hygiene and the dangers of the virus.
In another development, Kano state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tutos Company Ltd., to install gadgets in market that would alert traders on fire outbreaks through their GSM phones with a view to minimizing fire occurrences in commercial places.
