The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has commended Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina over plans to implement the Open Government Partnership (OGP)initiative in the state.
The Chairman of the coalition in the state, Mr Abdulrahman Abdullahi, gave the commendation on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina.
“It is a welcomed development because over the years we have been advocating for the state to be a member of the OGP community.
”Thus, the expression of interest to join the OGP by the governor and subsequent directive to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning to begin the formalisation and institutionalisation process has no doubt shown his interest to run an open, transparent, accountable and participatory government.
”OGP will surely give citizens a sense of belonging in the governance process and promote accountability and transparency in managing public resources.
”The coalition on its part, wishes to assure the governor and the people of the state of its readiness and commitment in ensuring that OGP in Katsina state is highly successful,” he said.
NAN reports that the OGP is a multilateral initiative that aims to secure concrete commitments from national and subnational governments.
It seeks to promote open government, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance.
In the spirit of multi-stakeholder collaboration, OGP is overseen by a steering committee, including representatives of governments and civil society organizations.(NAN)
