A Makurdi Magistrate’s court on Wednesday ordered that a carpenter Moses Akaan, be remanded in a correctional centre for alleged armed robbery.
The police charged Akaan.24, who hails from Mabaha Taraku Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue with conspiracy and armed robbery.
The Magistrate, Mr Victor Kor, did not take the plea of Akaan for want of jurisdiction.
Kor advised the police to return the case file to the Benue Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
He adjourned the case until Feb. 22 for DPP advice.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Ato Godwin told the court that the case was transferred from the Alaide Division, Gwer-East LGA police station.
Godwin said Mr Moses Terza and some youths reported the matter at the Gwer-East police Division on Dec 14, 2021.
He said the suspect attacked and robbed passengers of N45,000 cash, itel phone, an MP3 player worth N7,000 and a memory card.
During police investigation, he said, the suspect confessed to the crime.
Godwin said investigation into the matter was still on-going and prayed the court for an adjournment.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 6(b) and 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Act 2004.(NAN)
