The Save Democracy Group (SDG) has asked President Goodluck Jonathan to review offer of military and technical assistance made by some foreign countries in the effort to rescue the abducted students of the Government Secondary School, Chibok.
According to the body, the assistance offered by such countries has so far failed to yield any significant success, even with all the propaganda and blackmail on government associated with such.
Speaking at its second-quarter State of the Nation Address, the National Coordinator of SDG, Dr. Ifedi Okwenna insisted that the group was disturbed that over a month after troops and so-called experts from the United States, Great Britain, France, amongst other international communities arrived the country, the abducted girls were yet to be freed, nor terrorism activities reduced.
According to the body, “we wonder whether those promises were matched with action and if matched and no result obtained up till this moment, Nigerian government should then review those offers of assistance so as to discard the ones found not to be useful to our fight against terrorism”.
Though SDG, commended the international community for the outpouring of solidarity and support in the war against terrorism, they were disappointed no appreciable result has been made even with all the hype.
“We had wished that the offer of help and the media hype associated with the support could have hastened the release of these girls, but unfortunately, that is not the case.
“We are not happy despite these many supports and assistance promised from a number of countries across the globe, the abducted Chibok girls are till now yet to be freed,” SDG boss stated.
The body also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the governorship election in Ekiti state remained free, fair and credible and that the vote of the people counts.
“We equally implore INEC to ensure the continuous voter registration is really continuous such that whoever has his name removed from voters register or has never registered before will always have the opportunity to get registered whenever he so wishes,” they added.
While warning against electoral violence in the on-coming general elections, Dr. Okwenna said, “politicians should note that this country is entrusted in their hands and are expected to guide it jealously.
“The current ‘do or die’ politicking should be discarded. Politics and power chase ought to be a game. It is a relay race. It has a tenure.
“If you don’t get it now probably you get it tommorrow, but you cannot get it at all if you decide to rock the boat.
“Let us warn those adventurists who think they can jump to power through any undemocratic means to forget that impossible tracjectory”.
