Buhari’s aide urges youths to embrace technological skills to remain relevant

Malam Gambo Manzo, the Special Assistant (SA) to the President on Political Affairs, has advised Nigerian youths to embrace technological skills to enable them to remain relevant in scheme of things.

He said this in a statement by his Media and Communication Assistant, Mr Timothy Nwachukwu.

 He was reacting to the acquisition of Main-One, a Nigerian founded West African data centre and connectivity solutions provider for 320 million dollars by Equinix, one of the world’s digital infrastructure companies.

Manzo expressed optimism that embracing technology could help in addressing high rate of unemployment in the country.

He appealed to Nigerian youths to take advantage of the various digital programmes and initiatives of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy for a sustainable economic empowerment.

Manzo noted that there was a technological skill gap in Nigeria, adding that only those that were ready to develop their skills could operate in the technological spaces.

He commended Dr Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy for the construction and commissioning of tertiary Institutions and knowledge centres across the country.

This, he said, included; Gombe State College of Education Digital Economy Centre, E- Learning Facilities, Nneato Secondary School, Abia, Oyo State Digital Economy Centre and E- Learning Facilities, Imam Malik Academy, Sokoto and several others.

Gambo said that digital technologies would be the major driver of productivity, especially with Nigeria’s economy depending on greater numbers of digitally skilled workers that would drive the country’s digital future.

He urged youths to maximise the various programmes of the Federal Government and prepare themselves for Nigeria without oil with a total dependence on technology for solution providing.

The president`s aide advised youths to desist from waiting on white collar jobs and to develop their digital skills.

He said this was critical to enable them create jobs, solve problems, create wealth and contribute to the nation’s gross domestic products for a robust national economy. (NAN)
