The postponement of the presidential and national assembly election by Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC has led to several misguided criticism of the president and labelling him as complicit. Nothing can be farther from the truth.
In fact, many have pilloried the president as incompetent and desperate for a second term in office, despite his alleged non performance in the last four years.
However, those who criticise the president are not only unfair but also playing God. Lest we forget, immediately the president was sworn into office he unfortunately fell sick due to no fault of his. At some point he stayed over 100days in the hospital for treatment. Hence,it is improbable to expect the same level of performance from a healthy and a sick person. We are grateful to God that the president is well and better and ready to throttle at high speed in accelerating the development of the country.
The pedigree of the President as a man of incorruptibility is well known to all. Consequently, it is not unexpected for corruption to fight back knowing that it will no longer be business as usual for them. For the first time in the history of Nigeria we have a president who has the guts to put on trial a sitting Chief Justice of Nigeria on allegations of corruption. For this president Buhari deserves commendation and not condemnation.
Buhari”s commitment to the greatness of the country is unquestionable. For those who have forgotten, the North East of Nigeria was practically a territory owned and controlled by the dreaded forces of Boko Haram. The terrorism of Boko Haram was inflicted on the nation by the inept leadership of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Indeed, PDP is a creation of the PDP.
Apart from the unfortunate incidence of Boko Haram, the country under PDP was insecure and a playground for assassination and violence. Several prominent Nigerians were wasted needlessly by the government of PDP. They include but not limited to Chief Bola Ige, who at the time was Chief law officer in the land as Attorney General and Minister of Justice. Others were Chief Harry Marshall, Dikibo, Chuba Okadigbo, Sheikh Ja”afar Mahmud Adam, Sheikha Albani of Zaria. Such was the level of insecurity and disregard for lives.
Perhaps, the disregard for valuable lives was occasioned by the conspiracy of Nigeria’s military generals Ibrahim Babangida, Aliyu Gusau and then Head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar to release General Olusegun Obaeanjo who was serving a life imprisonment sentence and impose him on Nigerians as civilian president. Buhari was never with them and still not their Ally. For that they despise his guts. But one with God is a majority.
The 2019 presidential election is battle between the looters and the lootees. Victory is assured for the lootees with Buhari in charge.
For all those who have looted this nation as leaders and public officers before now certainly have reasons to be afraid. But the common people do not. As a result the ordinary Nigerians are behind President Buhari. This can be attested to by the unsolicited and unpurchaseable crowd that throng his campaign all over the country. Certainly, the commitment of President Buhari to Nigeria’s greatness is undiluted and unquestionable.
