The new Police boss in Anambra, CP John Abang, has promised to work with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to reduce the high rate of vehicles with covered number plates from plying roads in the state.Abang made the promise when he visited members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the council’s secretariat in Awka.He lamented that with the high rate of vehicles having covered number plates, hoodlums might not be easily detected and it could worsen the security situation in the state.“Vehicles with covered number plates are very huge problems not just in Anambra but in other states of the country.“I will meet with the Sector Commander of the FRSC in the state so that we can work our how we will tackle this problem.“We will need the cooperation of the state government in addressing the problem because we have many government officials who cover the number plates of their vehicles,” he said.Abang, who assumed office as the CP in Anambra Police Command on July 10, promised to make the state peaceful and habitable for all.He also appealed to journalists to help the command with useful information that would improve security in the state.“We shall ensure adequate policing within the ambit of the law, while respecting fundamental human rights of the people,” he said. Also, Mr Emmanuel Ifesinachi, Chairman, Anambra NUJ Council, promised that journalists in the state would cooperate and work harmoniously with security agents.“We understand the sensitivity of your work as a security agency and we will use our professional skills to provide valuable information for efficient policing in the state.“We appreciate your visit because it is the first time a Commissioner of Police will visit our secretariat,” he said.
