A five- man panel set up by the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP for the screening of its aspirants in Adamawa gubernatorial race has disqualified Acting Governor Umaru Ahmed Fintiri.
Senator Ibrahim Mantu, the panel’s chairman announced on Saturday that “Fintiri is not qualified to contest in the primaries because he is not as a deputy governor emerged as acting governor.
Mantu,a former deputy Senate President while justifying the disqualification of Fintiri said “He is a child of circumstance. He is the midwife and should not be the one carrying the pregnancy. He is like a referee who cannot participate in the match”
Former Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC,Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Engr Marcus Gundidri and General Buba Marwa who were granted waiver by the party to join the race on Fiday were cleared for the primaries.
Other aspirants cleared include Awwal Tukur, Mohammed Modibbo, Idi Hong, , Abubakar Girei, Umar Ardo, Ahmed Gulak, James Barka, Jerry Kundusi, Andrawus Sawa, Aliyu Kama.
Though the acting governor could still file an appeal against his disqualification,Saturday’s announcement is viewed as a major blow to a man used to oust ex gov Murtala Nyako.Has he outlived his usefulness to the party?
