In a bid to forestall the incessant stealing of cattle, Niger state government has introduced micro chips to identify and monitor movement of cows at the cost of N91 million.
This is just as the government also approved three cattle colonies.
The state commissioner of Livestock and Fisheries, Alhaji Zakari Bawa stated this while speaking to newsmen after the state executive council meeting in Minna.
He explained that the micro chip will enhance the fight against cattle rustlers in addition to easy identification of cattle in the state adding that government has began the sensitisation of Fulani herders and other cattle herders towards embracing the technology.
Speaking on the cattle colony, Bawa said that attention was focused on the grazing reserve in Bobi area of Mariga local government of the state saying that the use of the technology will commence from the reserve .
He said that the grazing reserve has been upgraded to status of cattle colony with all basic amenities including schools and clinics.
