he Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) has called on the Plateau Government to reconstruct the affected 11 communities in the recent crises in the state.

Mrs Rhoda Jahota, the state Chairperson of WOWICAN, made the appeal in an interview on Tuesday in Jos.

She said that the reconstruction would accelerate the possible return of the displaced communities to continue with farming as their source of livelihood.

“We urge government to compensate destroyed farmlands, rural farmers should be assured of their safety, the incessant killings of people especially women and children should stop and the perpetrators of the heinous act punished.

“Government policy on possession of firearms by individuals must be enforced to everyone and herders or farmers should be compelled to surrender theirs to the authorities,’’ she said.

Jahota said women were worse hit during conflicts psychologically because of their roles as mothers and wives whilst urging government to ensure borders were not porous to mitigate security risk of illegal immigrants.

The WOWICAN official supports the establishment of civilian joint task force in communities to protect lives and properties while cautioning against inciting comments by opinion leaders.

Women groups such as WOWICAN, Plateau WomenforWomen and HeForSHe have decried the spate of killings of women and children during attacks in the state and called for concerted efforts to address the menace.

The Wife of the state governor, Mrs Regina Lalong, have also called on residents of to live in peace and love one another for progress.

Mrs Lalong made the appeal during her visits to IDP camps in Jos South, Barikin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas of the state, where she donated relief materials. (NAN)
