The Chairman, Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has disclosed that the proposed Federal Polytechnic, Silame and the Federal College of Education, Sabon Birni, all in Sokoto State will soon be established.
According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani, issued on Sunday, the Senator disclosed this at the 16th Annual General Meeting of the Sokoto State Education Development Trust Fund (SEDTF) .
Wamakko also disclosed that he had completed the construction of a 500-capacity Information, Communications and Technology (ICT), Centre that would be used for the training primary schools’ teachers across the state on ICT.
He said that governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar would soon be invited to commission the centre.
The statement further disclosed that while Wamakko was currently sponsoring one hundred and twenty five undergraduate and postgraduate students in foreign countries of Pakistan, Cotonou, Uganda, Maradi and Ghana, three hundred students were being sponsored in various tertiary educational institutions within Nigeria.
In the same vein, the Senator has established and is maintaining three primary schools, including Usmanu BN Fodio International School for Quran and General Studies; Tsamiyar Dila and Ma’ahadut Tahfeez Wad-Dirasatil Quraniyah, Hubbare, in Sokoto North Local Government and Madarasatul Tahafizil Qur’an Wa Ulumuddinil Islamiyya, Fanari, in Wamakko Local Government.
Wamakko stated that he was according top priority to Science and Technology courses in the award of his scholarships.
Also speaking, Governor Aminu Tambuwal announced that over N600 million had been realised from the state’s Education Development Levy Fund.
He added that the state government would soon provide N500 milion to the State Education Consultative Committee on Education Development headed by the Sultan.
While lauding the state government for its renewed commitment in funding education at all levels, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar promised that all funds accruing to the Consultative Committee would be used judiciously.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Fund, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who was represented by the Madawakin Gwandu, Alhaji Idris Koko stated that the activities of the Committee were aimed at complementing the efforts of the government in funding education.
Shagari said that the fund’s activities was focus on boosting education and economic empowerment of the people of the state.
