The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it has upgraded its power transmission lines in Bauchi and environs to raise the bulk electricity capacity from 40 to 130 megawatts.
TCN Managing Director, Mr Usman Mohammed, disclosed this at the inauguration of a 60 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) transformer in Bauchi.
“The TCN’s decision to undertake the upgrade of the transmission lines in Bauchi is to ensure that inconvenience to electricity customers in terms of supply is minimised.
“Before now, Bauchi and its environs were supplied with only 40MVA and 30MV which are lower than the demand.
“The installation of 60 MVA, 132/33KV Power Transformer will increase the wheeling capacity of the substation to 130 MVA (104Megawatts).
“This will increase electricity supply to the state capital, its environs and some Local Government Areas (LGA) like Ningi, Dass, Tafawa Balewa, Bogoro, among others,’’ he said.
Mohammed said the TCN would continue to collaborate with the state government to boost electricity supply in the state.
“The state government provided the land for the installation of the transformer as well the environmental impact assessment, this is part of the collaboration we are talking about,’’ he said.
Gov. Mohammed Abubakar described electricity as the bedrock of development of any society.
“No country can survive or develop without quality power supply because quality power supply keep activities moving.
“We will continue to collaborate with TCN to improve power supply in the state,” he said.(NAN)
