Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has exonerated himself of accusation that he has been avoiding going to the United States of America.

Abubakar said it was not his fault but that of the US Embassy that has refused to grant him visa.

He said he has applied but was not granted visa.

The former Vice President said this in an interview with an online newspaper, The Boss.

He told the newspaper: “It is the sole prerogative of America to determine who they want in their country or not.

“I’m not running away from America.
“I applied, but wasn’t issued a visa.
“However, they did not decline me categorically either.
“They’ve only said my application is going through administrative process.”

There have been allegations that Abubakar has been avoiding going to the United States of America to evade arrest over his alleged role in a case of bribery involving US congressman, Williams Jefferson.
In the interview with The Boss, Abubakar said he is not the only prominent Nigerian or world citizen who has been prevented from traveling to the United States of America.

He said for 15 years, President Muhammadu Buhari was also prevented from entering the United States of America.
He said: “This is not peculiar to me.

“For about 15 years, Buhari could not enter America on account of religious considerations.

“The current Indian Prime Minister, Modi, suffered the same fate for years.
“Today, he is being treated to red carpet treatment in America.
“I fly to different parts of the world, including Europe, if America wanted me, it would be so easy for them to reach out to their allies….”
