The Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun, Dr David Oyedepo, has stressed the need for universities to equip students with the necessary skills to solve the country’s leadership challenges.
Oyedepo made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ota.
Oyedepo said that could be done by establishing Africa Leadership Development Centres in various universities in the country.
He explained that the Covenant University had commenced an online diploma and certificate courses in leadership, in a bid to address the leadership challenge.
According to him, the impact of the courses was evidenced in covenant topping the list of Nigerian universities with the most employable graduates.
He said that leadership development studies equipped graduates with the leadership skills and competencies required to proffer solutions to myriads of problems.
“Covenant is solving character problems among the young people in unmistakable terms.
“Also, the university was succeeding in positively remodeling the behaviour pattern of youths through the leadership development centre,” he said.
Oyedepo urged other universities to emulate the covenant university in setting up leadership development centres to serve as solution centres to leadership challenges. (NAN)
