The Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Malam Ali Muhammad Ali has underscored the agency’s commitment to developing a vibrant and healthy workforce.
Ali said this in his remarks at the inaugural NAN Fitness walk/jogging exercise on Saturday in Abuja.
NAN reports that the 4.8 km exercise with the theme: Walking for wellness and unity began at about 7.30 a.m. from the NAN Headquarters to the Eagle Square and back to the starting point.
Ali said that the exercise would be held on a quarterly basis, adding that the exercise aims to develop the body and mind of members of staff, as well as build a united NAN family.
“Today, as usual, we are beginning another inaugural event, which we hope will be a quarterly affair. Every three months, we will have this fitness walk exercise.
“The whole idea is to develop the body and, in the process, also develop our minds and build a team.
“This is because in NAN we are a family committed to the same goal and we believe that unless we have a healthy body, chances are the mind will not be healthy,” he said.
He said that what NAN had achieved a lot in the last couple of months as a family and the heights it had attained was worthy of commendation.
He stressed that so much more could be attained by a united workforce whose body and mind are well developed and healthy.
“We can do this. All of us united in the business of news gathering, news hunting, we believe as reporters and by association, those in other departments, without prejudice to any of them.
“We believe that unless you have a healthy body, you may not have a healthy mind. In that process, we bond and get to understand each other as a family and work towards the same goal.
“We have succeeded in past retreats, and with this new tradition, we will continue to promote unity and wellbeing within our agency.
“The inaugural fitness walk and jogging exercise is set to become a recurring event, reflecting the Service’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and physical fitness among its workforce,” he said.
Earlier, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed emphasised the importance of having a fit workforce to the overall productivity of any organisation.
Mohammed who was represented by Corps Commander, Nnamdi Asanya said the FRSC will continue to partner with organisations such as NAN to boost productivity and ensure a healthy workforce.
“Today the agency has the inaugural walk exercise, and we will continue to be part of this event. To make sure that the workforce in NAN remains healthy.
“We completed a 4.8-km walk, proving that we can surpass our physical limits.
“ The Corps is committed to supporting NAN in its health programmes,” he said.(NAN)
