The flag- off the Sokoto Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign on Wednesday failed to have in attendance the trio of aggrieved governorship aspirants, Mukhtari Shagari, Yusuf. Suleiman and Sen. Abubakar Gada.
The governorship candidate of the party, Abdallah Wali how received the PDP flag as the standard governorship candidate for the February 2015 election from the Northwest Zonal Vice Chairman, Amb. Ibrahim Kazaure.
Although no explanations were given for their absence, feelers have it that it might not be unconnected to the fallout from the December 8th, 2014 gubernatorial primary election result.
Former governor Attahiru Bafarawa said that it was time for Governor Aliyu Wamakko to prepare to hand-over power to Sen. Abdallah Wali because according to him, the PDP would win next month’s general election.
Building his assurances on the large turnout of supporters at the rally, Bafarawa said: “Wamakko should get ready to hand over to Wali. If you look at this mammoth crowd here and compare it with the one at the APC rally few days ago, you will come to the conclusion that victory is ours in the forthcoming governorship election.”
The former governor further said that, against the falsehood that was being spread, he had no plans to work against the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
Former National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bello Haliru called on the people to vote for Wali whom he assured would bring the desired change in Sokoto state.
The Supervising Minister of Health, Dr. Khaliru Alhassan called on the people to ensure that Sokoto got back to the PDP. “All hands must be on deck in order to get Sokoto back to mainstream politics in the country.”
Sen. Abdallah Wali, in his acceptance speech said that he was determined to bring Sokoto back to its past glory. “Sokoto is said to be the poorest state in the country. Therefore the task before PDP is enormous in order to redress the ugly trend the state has been dragged into.”
He pledged to give priority to education, health, infrastructure and youth empowerment if given the mandate come 2015.
