“Our initial idea was to support the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan believing that continuity will better secure our democracy considering the stage we are in the democratic ladder. But after a deeper review and careful analysis of the situation in the country, we are not convinced with the performance of the present administration”,said Mr. Kunle Ehinlanwo, National Coordinator ,House-to-House Educational Initiative .
He made this declaration at a press conference on Tuesday where he announced that his group has dumped Jonathan for the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari.
He said “House-to-House Educational Initiative was formed to promote good governance and pro poor policies through national dialogue and intervention on issues of national development and till date, we have done quite extensive work in this regard.
“In achieving our set goal, we use sensitization and awareness as drivers of development. In recent times, however, we are beaming the searchlight on political development, to see how we can work with the Nigerian people and other partners to build the nation’s democracy and its processes.
The coordinator said further,”We have consequently decided to throw our support in favour of General Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who, we are convinced, is a better man for the challenging job.
“The House-to-House Educational Initiative will henceforth campaign vigorously to canvass massive votes for the election of General Muhammadu Buhari and his running mate Prof. Yemi Osibajo ahead of the next general election across the 36 states of the Federation, the FCT and the 774 Local government areas in 2015.
“For the record, our organisation is engineered and powered by concerned citizens and patriotic volunteers throughout Nigeria to achieve this common objective. We are concerned about the future of this great nation buffeted by bad leadership and we believe the time for a collective action towards a purposeful and responsible government which shares the wishes and aspirations of distressed Nigerians is now. We have, therefore, taken the bull by the horn to do our honest bit in the quest for change”.
He vowed that his group will “ mobilise Nigerians, particularly the youths, to ensure victory for General Muhammadu Buhari and Prof. Yemi Osibajo in the presidential election and to properly educate Nigerians on the imperatives of electing the APC presidential flag bearer in the 2015 presidential election to achieve a lasting progressive Change.
It will also”assiduously canvass the election of General Muhammadu Buhari as a moral force and indeed a necessity to right the debilitating condition in our nation today, thereby ensuring justice, peace, unity and prosperity among the Nigerian people.
“To work in harmony with the national leadership of the APC and all other organisations, including socio-economic, political and volunteer formations to propagate the ideals of a new era of possibilities.
“To give Nigerians hope and sense of belonging and set a fresh template that will project General Muhammadu Buhari as the face of the new leadership we urgently need, a credible alternative that can usher our dear nation into a new beginning of peace, progress and true development”
“From the above, it is clear that ours is truly a patriotic endeavor to foster a better Nigeria by engaging our people on the rationale for the election of General Buhari and his running mate Prof. Osibajo which we believe is a good thing for our democracy, peace, unity, economic development and our collective happiness. This is the basis for our interest and abiding commitment to work conscientiously to realise this noble objective”
“Importantly, that Nigerians are earnestly yearning for change and it is becoming very clear that no amount of intimidation or corruption of the electoral process will change the tide. The voices of the people will be heard, loud and clear, via their massive votes at the election.
“These are our convictions and in the days and weeks ahead, you will all see our actions and activities on all we have stated above and we have no doubt that Nigerians will appreciate our patriotic intervention as we collectively push for a new order where our people can live a better life.
“This can only be possible when the national leadership is right and this is why we have decided to endorse the candidature of General Muhammaduu Buhari and his running mate Prof. Yemi Osibajo whose integrity and leadership record are too convincing to elicit our support. It is the logical way to go and it is in our collective best interest.
“This is our modest contribution to the challenge of national rebirth as the House-to-House Educational Initiative will henceforth go all out to promote these causes and values noted above, crusading for the election of General Muhammadu Buhari which, we believe, is a necessity in the nation’s best interest”.
