The Rivers House of Assembly has passed a bill on Pension and other fringe benefits for former governors and deputies in the State.
Hon. Belema Okpokiri, member representing Okrika Constituency, while deliberating on the “Pension and Other Fringe Benefits To Public Office Holders Bill 2012,’’ during plenary session on the floor of the House said serving or retired governor, deputy should be provided accommodation within the State.
In his contribution, Hon. Golden Chioma said medical treatment should also be provided for the immediate family of the governors and their deputies as the law provides . Hon. Chioma also added that any of the children above 18 years and should not benefit the medical care.
According to the lawmaker, governors and deputies that leave office in the next 24 months should benefit. Also member representing Asari-Toru 2, Hon. Ben Horsfall in his submission added proper ingredients should be part of the amendment
Hon Chinwo Victor Phalga kicked against the bill while making his submission in the floor of the House on Tuesday, 22nd May 2012.
Those voted in support of the bill as amended are 22, while 2 abstained
