#TrackNigeria The wives of the 19 northern states governors are currently meeting in Minna to seek a way out of the increasing spate of insecurity and drug abuse in the region.
The meeting, according to the Chairperson of the Forum, Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello, would also look at the best way of assisting their husbands in improving development in their various states.
Bello stated this when she led the Governors wives to pay a courtesy visit to their host governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello at the Government House in Minna.
She said, “By supporting our husbands, they will be able to achieve their economic goals in their states for the overall benefits of the people”.
She expressed their concern over the level of insecurity in the region which has led to the loss of lives of many innocent Nigerians especially women and children.
Bello said that the Forum would also commission the social rehabilitation center built by the state government which would cater to youths that are into drug abuse.
“The drug intervention program is the flagship of our intervention. We hope to add another area of intervention by next year.”
Receiving the Governors Wives, Niger state governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello appreciated them for their initiatives which have improved the success of governance in the region.
He lauded their intervention in the area of social rehabilitation centers in the region stating that the issue of drug abuse has been a worry to government at all levels.
According to the Governor, the increase in the abuse of drugs has been associated with the increasing spate of insecurity in the region.
“Social vices have been a challenge to all the northern states in Nigeria. The increased abuse of drugs is being linked to the increasing criminal activities in the region. Social rehabilitation is a guarantee to address this long-standing problem we have been facing in the region”, he said.
