The Zamfara Government has commenced the construction of 1.3 kilometers road and Campus-Wide Water System worth N5 billion within the university campus.
The Vice –Chancellor (V-C) of the Federal University, Gusau, Prof. Magaji Garba, who said this on Tuesday added that it was the state’s contribution to the development of the university.
Garba announced this at the matriculation of the newly admitted students for the 2018/2019 academic session by the university held in Gusau on Tuesday.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, another set of eight lecture rooms being built by the state government in the institution are nearing completion.
He added, “A non-governmental organisation, Abdulwahab Foundation, is also constructing a 2.3kilometer asphalt-surface road in the university.’’
He said the infrastructural development of the young university was expanding.
The V-C said that other capital projects embarked upon by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFfund) include: the ICT centre, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Agriculture buildings and the Convocation Square had commenced.
“Very soon, a TETFund special high impact project will commence with the construction of a three-storey administration block, two lecture theatres and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences building,’’ he said.
The V-C also said that 1,478 out of the 1,574 new students were admitted through the UTME for the academic session while the remaining 96 students were admitted through Direct Entry.
“The breakdown of the students admitted on faculty bases are: Faculty of Humanities and Education (542), Faculty of Management and Social Sciences (326), and Faculty of Sciences (706).’’
He explained that the university had matured into a full-fledged institution having graduated its pioneer students who are currently participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
“I thank the academic and non-teaching staff members of the institution who worked tirelessly in the last four years to achieve this feat.
“The university is expanding and in the coming sessions, the Faculties of Agriculture, Engineering, Technology and Pharmaceutical Sciences are expected to come on board.
“If this mission is achieved, our admission quota will increase to at least 4,000 students per session’’, he said.
He congratulated the newly admitted students and urged them to shun all forms of indiscipline and violence in order for them to concentrate on their studies.
“I urge you to be good ambassadors of your parents, state, country and this great institution.
“You must shun drugs, dangerous chemicals and all untoward behaviours.
“Sanctions are well in place for anyone of you who decides to violate the rules and regulations of the institution,” he said. (NAN)
