March 1st 2013 has been fixed by an Abuja High Court to determine whether President Goodluck Jonathan will have a place in the 2015 presidential elections. Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi at the Abuja High Court fixed the date of judgment.The Judgment could not hold on October 18 2012 due to the absence of the judge.
The Registrar of the Court,Godwin in a phone call to to Counsel to Plaintiff,Osuagwu Ugochukwu informed him that the Judge has fixed the date and paper hearing notice Will not be neccessary.
A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Mr Cyriacus Njoku had in March brought the motion for a restraining order against President Jonathan from re-contesting by May 29, 2015.
Njoku, from Zuba Ward in the Abuja Municipal Area Council with PDP registration number 1622735, had urged the court to declare that Jonathan could not swear to an oath thrice in view of section 137(1) (b) of the 1999 Constitution.
He is also seeking an order, restraining the PDP from further sponsoring or attempting to sponsor Jonathan as candidate for election to the office of the President in 2015.
Those familiar with the suit said there is tension in the presidency over this case.
