Yobe State will hold elections into its 17 local government councils on Feb 27, Dr Mamman Mohammed, Chairman, Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission, has announced.
He told newsmen in Damaturu on Tuesday that more than 1,365, 000 registered voters were expected to participate in the exercise to produce 17 council chairmen and 178 councilors.
The chairman called for the cooperation of all security agencies for successful conduct of the elections.
“In our efforts to achieve this, we need an environment that is conducive and fully secured to allow free, fair, credible and peaceful election without rancor or acrimony,” he said.
Mohammed also sought advice and recommendations on which polling units should be relocated or merged on security grounds
He enjoined media organisations to enlighten the public on all election parameters and the credibility of people to be elected to occupy such sensitive offices.
Mohammed also called on all the management staff and other stakeholders of the commission to maintain neutrality during the exercise.
“You are specifically mentioned because of the important role you play in the conduct of the election,” Mohammed said. (NAN)
