Communities living on the corridors of Kabba-Egbe-Ilorin road have been asked to take special interest in the safety of personnel and equipments of the construction company rehabilitating the road.
The Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris Wada, made the appeal when he inspected on-going work on the Kabba-Egbe-Ilorin road.
The governor commended CGC, the construction company for the palliative measure that has made the road motor able up to Isanlu even though it was not part of their contract term but as a corporate social responsibility.
Wada who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, says the state government is committed to showing more than a passing interest in ensuring that the Kabba-Egbe-Ilorin road awarded recently by the federal government is completed on schedule.
Capt Wada expressed excitement at the sand filling work done on the road by the contractor that has made it passable by motorist who had since abandoned the road for other routes.
The Governor however charged the contractor to speed up the temporary sand filling of the failed portion of the road despite the challenge posed by the rains washing off part of the areas sand filled.
He appealed that the filling be done up to Egbe when the rain subsides, while the opening up of the shoulders and actual rehabilitation work be hastened to meet the expected completion date.
Wada who described the Kabba-Egbe-Ilorin road as very crucial to the socio economic life of the nation, said the hardship faced by the people of the area and motorists who ply the road is long overdue.
The state government, Capt Wada stated is showing serious concern to the road work, said since the commencement of work on the road, business activities have since picked up in the area, describing the road as a live wire to the areas economy.
Capt Wada assured that it is a policy under his administration to protect lives and properties of contracting firms, solicited the support of the people living on the corridors of the road construction, to be partners in the development effort.
The Governor said his administration will do all within its reach to ensure that the road is made passable, commended the work program of CGC even with the peak of the rains, urged them not to be discouraged in the sand filling process.
Capt Wada commended the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan for awarding the road and his show of commitment to the rehabilitation of the road, assured of the support of the government and people of the area to his administration.
